Mint Tea Julep
Just in time for St. Patty’s Day, I have something better than your traditional green drink. No Midori or creme de menthe here.
No, our green drink is getting festive in the form of some beautiful, fresh mint. As a follow up to last years Grapefruit Mint Julep, I’m bringing you something just as delightful - a Mint Tea Julep.
It starts with muddled mint, mint syrup, and tea. It finishes with bourbon. Because I love bourbon.
Ingredients and Methods
Mint Syrup
0.5 cup sugar
0.5 cup water
15 mint leaves
In a medium sauce pan, bring sugar and water over medium-high heat until sugar completely dissolves. Reduce heat to low and add whole mint leaves. Let simmer 10 minutes. Remove and discard the mint leaves. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.
Iced Tea
3 cups water, divided
3 tea bags
Bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Add hot water to large, heatproof vessel. Steep tea bags for 15 minutes. Remove the the tea bags and add 2 cups of cold water. Allow to come to room temperature before using. Store in an airtight container in the fridge up to one week.
Mint Tea Julep
2 oz bourbon
4 oz iced tea
1 oz mint syrup
6-8 mint leaves
In a tall empty glass, muddle together fresh mint leaves and mint syrup. Fill the glass with ice.
Add your freshly brewed and cooled tea.
Add your bourbon and stir to combine with a bar spoon.
Enjoy responsibly!
