2019 Best in Beauty
2019 was a good year for me. I ticked some destinations off my travel bucket list. I got back into camping and hiking. I started Laurel and Iron! It’s been a big one folks.
However vain this may sound, I also feel like I had a great year in beauty. I discovered some products that really changed my game. To kick off 2020, I’m going to share my favorite beauty products of 2019 with you.
Primer
This pick was a no brainer for me. I went through an entire primer and the repurchased. It is absolutely beautiful and glowy. I used it as my base for every single big event this year. I even featured it in my Glowy Makeup for Easter Brunch.
It’s the First Aid Beauty Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer ($28). If you have normal to dry skin, this primer will be your best friend. Plus it’s clean beauty.
Foundation and Concealer
These two go together like birds of feather. I had a few nasty breakouts this year that required higher than normal coverage.
The Too Faced Born This Way Foundation ($39) provides excellent coverage with a skin like finish. It applies best with a damp BeautyBlender *.
Being a full-time corporate minion and part-time blogger didn’t leave much time for sleep. So, covering those undereye bags was big theme for 2019. I couldn’t do it without the Becca Under Eye Correcting Concealer ($32*)
Setting Powder
If you like soft, finely milled powders, look no further. The Too Faced Peach Perfect Mattifying Setting Powder ($33) is the perfect way to set your base and create a smooth canvas for blending your cheek products.
Bronzer
Oh, this bronzer is nothing short of perfect! It is soft and little bit glowy. As a pale princess, this bronzer is one of the only bronzers on the market that has a tone that works for my skin tone. Unfortunately, it seems the bareMinerals Invisible Bronze ($22) may not be long for this world. It seems to be on clearance. Run, don’t walk, to pick it up. Then petition bareMinerals to bring it back!
Blush
While I thoroughly enjoy both sides of this Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow ($68 *), the highlight shade, in particular, is something I really loved this year. It’s a subtle, champagne shimmer that compliments fair skin tones and looks great with pretty much everything.
Setting Spray
When it comes to setting sprays, I’m pretty picky. Let me tell you, once you go Ultra Fine Mist, you’ll never go back. This Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow setting spray ($28) is amazing. But you’ve been warned, if you try it, every other setting spray on the market will feel like being hit in the face with a squirt gun. Plus it smells amazing.
Eye Shadow Palette
I think this palette might be what dreams are made of. It’s been my most used palette this year. From neutral looks, to pinky looks, to pumpkin patch looks…this palette may look a little one-toned but it actually has surprising diversity. I had so much fun creating colorful yet wearable eye looks with the Natasha Denona Sunrise Palette ($65)
Eye Shadow Single
I am happy to have discovered Terra Moons Cosmetics, a small, independently owned makeup brand churning out beautiful collections. I made an order this spring and this shadow, Starblush ($5) stood out to me. It’s a creamy pink metallic. I hope to explore more of their collection in 2020.
Eyeliner
If you’re caught up on the blog, you’re probably sick of me gabbing about this eyeliner pencil. Not only do I love the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil formula but this particular color, Bourbon ($22), is an all-time favorite. This is my second pencil of 2019 and it’s half gone already. I need to start buying in bulk.
Mascara
When CoverGirl announced that they went cruelty-free this year, in partnership with Cruelty-Free International, I couldn’t be more excited. The first product I reunited with was the Lash Blast Mascara ($5*). It’s as good as I remember it being. And now it’s available in waterproof. Perfection.
Lip Liner
I never thought I’d be calling a brown toned lip liner a favorite. I never even thought I’d have a lip liner worth talking about. But Kackie changed my mind and convinced me that lip contour is thing. And what better product to use than the Thrive Causemetics Lip Filler Lip Liner in Kackie ($20).
Lipstick
I have a lot of feelings about Bite Beauty. All of them good. This year I tried this Outlast Longwear Lip Stain in Sangria Slush ($24). It’s gorgeous and wears beautifully. It’s a bright, fun red-pink that I wore all-year long.
Lip Gloss
Gone are the days of sticky lip gloss. RiRi has changed the game with her plush glosses and made me a gloss believer. The Fenty Gloss Bomb in $weet Mouth (discontinued but check out the range here). I will definitely be trying some more Gloss Bombs in 2020!
Perfume
This was the scent of my summer. It’s stunning. With notes of Bergamot, Heliotrope, and Coconut Milk, Replica Beach Walk Perfume ($28) is the perfect warm weather scent. I couldn’t get enough of it. And will definitely be repurchasing if I run out!
I told you guys it was a good year for beauty! I discovered some great new things and fell back in love with some thins I already owned.
