Low-Stress Holiday Party Planning

Low-Stress Holiday Party Planning

Since purchasing my own home in 2015, one of the things I have looked forward to every year is hosting a holiday get together for my friends. Even in the middle of a global pandemic, I was able to host my three best friends for a little holiday cheer.

With the FDA approval of COVID vaccines and access to rapid testing, I wouldn’t be surprised to see an increase in festivities this year. And while I’m not quite ready to throw my usual size shindig, I am looking forward to a small gathering at home again this year.

When I started to plan this party, I knew I needed prioritize simplicity. While I normally love a extravagant, made from scratch spread, I am simply not feeling up to this year. So, easy was the name of the game.

In the spirit of fun but still casual, I suggested to my friends a dip party and they were all in. The TikTok trend is a perfect way to host without losing your mind! I absolutely love this idea as a fun way to get everyone involved in the party planning. But if dip is not your thing, try cheese or appetizers instead. You could end up with the most epic charcuterie board ever. And you don’t have to do it alone. Ask guest to bring an item to share and provide basics like crackers, bread, and drinks.

Speaking of drinks, make ahead pitcher drinks are the best way to keep the party flowing without you playing bartender all night. I’ve already shared a few of my favorites here on the blog. Like this Home for the Holidays sangria and this crowd-pleasing Raspberry Rose sangria. Not into sangria? Try a make your own mimosa bar. Set out juices and champagne and let guests create their own perfect drink. I love cranberry juice to make these easy Poinsettias.

Set the mood for a perfect evening by diming harsh overhead lighting and turn on your festive fairy lights. Add a holiday playlist from Spotify and get ready to enjoy an evening with loved ones.

I’ve saved the best part for last. Skip all the Yankee swaps and White Elephants and Secret Santas. After all, the holiday season is about spending time with our favorite people not getting gifts. Plus, when is the last time you were part of a gift swap that didn’t end with someone’s feelings hurt and someone arguing over the official rules. Save yourself the headache and let guests know that the gift of their presence is gift enough for you.

If you absolutely must do the gift swap thing, set a reasonable budget and establish the house rules ahead of time. At a lost for what to gift? I’ve got you with my Thoughtful Yankee Swap list.

I hope this holiday season is peaceful and fun for you. And I want to know, what kind of parties are you attending or throwing?
