Day in My Life as a Side-Hustle Blogger
I have a serious thing for Day In My Life type posts and vlogs. I love getting a peak into someone else’s life because I’m nosy. But most of this content comes from those who create content as a full-time job. Which is still interesting but what about my girls who are still out here hustling on the side? What about the girls who work full time and create content in their free time.
After a year of blogging, I can tell you that it’s not easy to balance work, life, and blog. But I’ve settled into a routine that allows me to create content and still have a life.
If you wanted to know what it’s like to side hustle while working full time - here’s my experience.
1:00AM: Go to bed!
I don’t get home from work until about 11:45PM so I’m not usually bed until pretty late. I always read before hitting the hay though! I get a lot of questions about my schedule and how I manage working late shift. Which is such a strange question but here’s the answer - you adapt to survive. There are a lot of perks to working the shifts that I do. So, the downsides, working late, are worth the balance.
08:45 AM
Time to wake up! Sometimes I go to spin class first thing, but today I’m taking it easy. The first hour of the day is for attending to the Paige and the house. Starting laundry, a quick tidy up, and a little relaxing. I’m a easy into the day kind of girl.
10:30 AM
Time for breakfast and most importantly coffee!!! I love breakfast. I usually try to take this time to do some journaling, habit tracking, or reviewing my planner. Basically, anything but working. There will be plenty of time for that later.
11:00 AM
Time to get to work. Today, I need to get THREE posts ready to go because I’m going to Florida tomorrow and I have zero interest in dragging my laptop along with me. So, this is serious business. I am working on My February reading goals, a post about my travel makeup bag, and of course, this post! Blog inception.
My general approach to blog writing is a three step process. First, I write a rough draft of the post. Just get it all out. This helps me understand what types of photos I need and what links I need to find. Next, I take my photos and edit them in Light Room and Photoshop. Finally, I start building the post - placing the photos, editing the text as I go.
Depending on the content, this whole process can take 2 hours or 2 days. Today, I am starting on step two. I wrote drafts of two of the three posts over the weekend.
12:30 PM
I had to take a break to attend to some household needs including finishing packing for my trip tomorrow, doing laundry, and dishes. Not the most fun but we all have to do it.
3:00 PM
This is not an everyday occurrence for me but every couple of months, I go to get a massage. And since today was the first day of my vacation, I wanted start it by relaxing. I headed over to my favorite Portland spa, Sage Wellness.
4:30 PM
Back to work after my massage and before dinner. I shot the photos for my updated What’s in My Travel Makeup Bag, edited the photos, and built the post.
6:30 PM
It’s time for dinner and that means time to stop blogging. I could keep working until midnight but it’s important to set boundaries so you don’t get burnt out. Thomas and I had plans to eat dinner together and watch a few episodes of You on Netflix before bed.
