June 2019 Monthly Favorites
Earlier this year I was recording my beauty product consumption - what I was buying and what I was using up. In May, I hadn’t actually bought anything and all that I had finished up was some Batiste Dry Shampoo and a tube of Dr. Jart’s+ Premium BB Cream. If you haven’t already heard me wax poetic about those two products, where have you been?

So, this month, I’m trying something a little bit different. Instead of tracking data (even though I love some good data), I’m just gonna talk about the good stuff.
Products I’m Loving
Charlotte Tillbury Hollywood Flawless Face Filter in Shade 2 ($44): Oh goodness. I thought this stuff was a total joke. The thing Instagram beauty gurus used simply because the bottle is pretty and it’s bougie. This stuff will give you the prettiest, most subtle glow. I have used it under my foundation, over my foundation, and mixed in with my foundation. I prefer it mixed into foundation for an all over glowly boost.
Too Faced Damn Girl Mascara (fullsize, $25): If Thomas notices that my eyelashes look different, we know something is working. That is exactly what happened. I had been using CoverGirl Lash Blast which is good but there is a considerable difference with this mascara. It lives up to its name. Damn girl, your lashes look good.
Replica Beach Walk Rollerball ($28): This smells like the beach at dusk - when the waves are calm, the air is fresh, and the sunscreen is all but washed away by the sea. It is absolutely heavenly and so perfectly crafted. It truly is like a walk at the beach. I think I’ll be wearing this on all summer long. With key notes of bergamot (the obsession continues!), coconut, and heliotrope, this scent is a true winner.
Techniques I’m Loving
Reverse Foundation: I stumbled upon this technique thanks to makeup artist Samantha Ravndal and I’m loving it for summer skin. Essentially, you apply a cream highlight, bronzer, and blush to your bare face then apply liquid foundation ( or in my case, a mixture of BB cream and the CT Hollywood Flawless filter) over top. The result is effortlessly blended color and dewy, fresh skin. Check her tutorial here!
Bare Brows: I love a good, bold brow but as the summer heats up, I’m about to be on the go 24-7. So, I don’t have time to block out my brows. For day-to-day, I’m loving a more natural look - just a little tinted brow gel. I love this one from Colourpop!
Blotted Lips Look: I dab a little bit of lipstick in the center and blend out towards the corners for a subtle look. Like eating a popsicle. I also like using this new Bite Beauty Outburst Longwear Lipstain for the same look with zero effort. It applies like a regular lipstick but wears away to a pretty stain.
Trends I’m loving
(Faux) Freckles: I have a lot of freckles and I’m probably the only adult with freckles who can say that they grew up loving them. For those of you with freckles who were made fun of as a kid, my heart bleeds for you. I never experienced that. If you did, well, look who's laughing now! Freckles are hot and people are clambering to beauty stores for freckle markers and eyeliner pens to get that youthful look.
If you weren’t blessed with a face full of dots, you can achieve this look with a teeny tiny eyeliner brush and a light brown shadow. Use real freckles as a reference and create a variety of sizes and intensities for a more natural look.
For me, I am sticking to lighter coverage these days to let my natural freckles shine through and using this technique to enhance some for a bolder look on special occasions or when I’m wearing a more full-coverage base to bring life back to my face. I’m not me without my freckles!
The Tied Up Shirt: I’ve gone simply crazy for shirts that tie in the front or the back along the hemline or long button downs that can be tied in a knot. I think it can be rather flattering, show a flash of skin without overdoing it, if you please, and it’s super cute.
Wrap Bracelets/Layered Bracelet: I love a good arm party especially when it requires zero planning. So, the renewed popularity of the wrap bracelet is a trend I’m here for. I picked this little ditty up in Aruba years ago. Trends always come back around. I’m so glad I kept it!
