Hello there.

Welcome to Laurel and Iron - a lifestyle blog documenting my life and adventures in New England and beyond.

beauty: glowy makeup for Easter brunch

To me spring means pink, coral, and all things glowy. Spring makeup is my favorite and Easter is my favorite holiday. To me, Easter represents a fresh start and a new beginning. Even from childhood, I looked forward to spending Easter with my family - going to church, eating brunch, and searching for eggs, of course!

As a adult, Easter has come to be less about chocolate and more about taking a moment to be grateful and renew my spirit after long, difficult Maine winters. As a makeup lover, I’m excited about the prospect of putting away dark hues and pulling out my dewy, fresh, shimmery shades.

Here’s what I’ll be wearing on my face for Easter. As for the outfit, I haven’t gotten that far yet. Yikes.

Base Products
A great base is so important. It is literally the foundation of your look. So, make it count!

Glowy Base Makeup for Easter | Laurel and Iron

First Aid Beauty Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer ($28) This stuff will give you the most beautiful glowy base for any makeup look. Be prepared to look like J.Lo in a 2006 music video. That’s the kind of gorgeous dew we are talking about. I don’t know how they do it but they do it well! Unlike so many hydrating primers, it doesn’t translate to a grease slick on my oily skin. It’s the best base for a great makeup day!

Becca Undereye Brightening Corrector in Light to Medium ($32*): Being the pale princess that I am, the delicate skin under my eyes tend show my continuous lack of beauty sleep. Pat this under the eye with your middle finger to correct those blueish tones. A little goes along way so proceed with caution and build thin layers.

Dr. Jart’s Premium BB Cream in Light to Medium ($36*): I have sung the praises of this BB cream previously. I can’t think of anything I’d rather have on my face. It counteracts redness, evens out pores and imperfections but it lets my freckles shine through. Apply with a damp sponge for the best results. I like Beauty Blenders*.

Cream Cheek Products
Switching from a powder blush, bronzer, and highlighter, to cream products can really elevate your glow factor. Here are some of favorites.

E.L.F Cream Blush and Contour Duo in St. Lucia ($4*): Let’s all just take a minute and talk about how this product is FOUR dollars. That’s it. You get a blush and a bronzer for four dollars. I love a bargain. This soft coral hue and cool-toned bronzer is perfect for pale princesses like me. I wish they made this product in more color ways! I’d collect them all. The forumla is great and easy to work with. A winner in my book! Tap the coral blush onto your cheeks with a finger then blend out the edges with your damp sponge. I like to use the contour with a Real Techniques Sculpting Brush*. Make a fish face and follow the contours of your cheeks. Blend around the hair line and under the chin for an all over glow.

Benefit High Beam Liquid Highligher ($24*): Shimmery, pink perfection. This product has been around for ages. Benefit was making a blinding, wet look highlight before blinding, wet look highlights were even a thing people cared about. It’s a long-standing staple for a reason. It’s glowy and lovely and perfect. Use the applicator to apply directly to the high points of your face - cheekbones, tip of the nose, cupid’s bow, and just above the arch of your eyebrow. Then use the your sponge to blend in.

Eyes
Come spring, I’m ready for pink, purples, and champagne tones for a soft, glamorous look.

Glowy Eyes for Easter | Laurel and Iron

Urban Decay Anti-Aging Primer Potion ($24*): As with your face, a good eye look starts with a good base. I’ve talked about it this primer before but I’ll say it again…It’s holy grail status for me. Apply to lids, tap in with your finger, and set lightly with a skin-toned shadow or powder.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette ($42*): This absolutely one of my favorite eyeshadow palettes I own. For Easter, I’ll be buffing Buon Fresco into the crease, patting Vermeer all over the lid, and then blending Love Letter into the outer corner. To finish off the look, I love using Cypress Umber as a liner.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara ($24*): This mascara makes a big impact while remaining soft and fluttery. I love it! Swipe on two coats after curling your lashes for a doll-eye effect.

Colourpop Brow Boss Gel in Soft Brown ($6): A soft, feathery Instagram brow is favorite thing to pair with a glowy makeup look. I feel like it keeps things looking fresh and carefree. Brush through your brows with a dry spooly before applying a light coat of gel to hold your brows in place.

Lips

Colourpop Lippie Pencil in Brink ($5): This terracotta-rose lip pencil is the perfect my lips but better shade for any time of year. For this look, line your natural lip line and feather inwards.

Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien ($18*): This glossy lip pencil is the perfect match for Brink and the perfect compliment to any spring look.

Finishing it up!
Keep everything in place with these handy tricks!

Becca Soft Light Blurring Powder in Golden Hour ($38*): This powder is described a Instagram filter for real life and it’s so true! This is the most luminous powder I own but I still apply strategically and with a light hand. Dust lightly with a big, fluffy brush over the areas where you tend to get shiny. For me that’s the t-zone.

NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray ($7*): Finish the look off with a generous spritzing of this stuff. Not only will it add a final layer of glow, but it will set everything in place and remove the look of powder on your skin. Let dry and you’re good to go!
