Hello there.

Welcome to Laurel and Iron - a lifestyle blog documenting my life and adventures in New England and beyond.

What's in My Travel Makeup Bag!

On Monday, I post my curated collection of In Flight Essentials. Today, I’m talking about one of my favorite topics…beauty products. When it comes to travel, I like to pair down my routine to just the essentials. Just enough to feel like myself but not to much that I feel bogged down by stuff.

Here’s what I bring with me when I’m traveling!

What's in My Travel Makeup Bag

Base Products

Smashbox Photofinish Pore Minimizing Primer ($15): Smashbox can do no wrong when it comes to primers. This is a solid, all around primer and it comes in this adorable travel size. It’s perfect for keeping your makeup in place all day. Pro tip - the travel size is actually cheaper per ounce than the full size. Go figure!

Becca Cosmetics Under Eye Brightening Concealer ($32*): I talked about under eye concealer in my Easter makeup post last week! I love this stuff. It will hide all traces of jet lag or travel fatigue.

Dr. Jart+ Premium BB Cream ($42*): Need I say more? I have sung the praises of this BB cream here, and here! This stuff is truly holy grail status for me. Plus it has SPF 45. With a natural, skin like finish, I never have to worry about looking over done.

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer ($27): When I travel, my skin tends to get a little bit cranky. Shape Tape is a heavy duty, full-coverage concealer for any little friends that appear.

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed($29): Although I’m a loose powder girl at heart, I find them too messy and too fussy to travel with. So, I love a good translucent pressed powder. This one gives a nice finish and helps to keep shine at bay.

Cheek Products

Jouer Blush Bouquet Duo in Coquette ($30): This two-in-one compact is perfect for travel. The light pink shade is perfect for day, the darker shade great for a night out. And you can mix the two for a third color. The formula is beautiful and the packaging is stunning.

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow Duo in Light/Medium ($68*): If you’re thinking that that price is outrageous, you’re totally right. If you’re thinking it can’t possibly be worth it, you’re totally wrong. I absolutely adore this powder duo. The contour shade is perfectly neutral, not too red, not too olive. The highlight…oh this highlight. I doesn’t look like much in the compact but it is truly beaming. Both powders apply like a dream. My advice, wait for a Sephora VIB Sale then snatch it up!

Eye Products

Urban Decay Anti-Aging Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($24*): I’ve been using Urban Decay Primer Potion since I was in college! It’s the only thing that prevents eyeshadows from creasing on me. I wouldn’t dare travel with out!

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara ($24*): This mascara packs a serious punch! I received it as Sephora Point Perk and have been absolutely loving it! It gives me both volume and length. And it’s black as night. Everything I look for in a mascara!

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Liner in Perversion ($22): This is the absolute blackest liner I own and it sets down beautifully. I never worry about the dreaded raccoon eyes with Urban Decay liners. So, it’s a no brainer for travel!

Natasha Denona Mini Star Eyeshadow Palette ($25): I love this eyeshadow palette. Not only are the shadows perfection, the color story is perfect travel. Neutral with a blue pop - it’s right up my alley and goes with everything!

Nars Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Himilia ($29): Unfortunately, this shade has been discontinued but this Wet ‘n’ Wild shade is very similar and only a buck. Taupe eyeshadows really make my blue eyes pop. I love this shadow for a simple yet beautiful, one shade eye look. Add mascara and you’re done!

Stila Kitten Eyeshadow ($18*): There is no more iconic eye shadow in existence. It has a cult following and it’s well earned. This shimmery champagne is a highlighting shade. I love to blend a medium brown into my crease, pop Kitten all over the lid, and finish with winged liner for a look that works for any occasion!

Lip Products

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl ($25*): My go-to red lip. The pencil form means you don’t need to drag along a lip liner. It’s a comfortable matte that doesn’t smudge or stray. And it’s easy to reapply when you’re on the go!

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Rhubarb ($15* for mini): Mauve is an everyday color for me. I have raved about Bite Beauty multiple times (here, here, and here). They’re my absolute favorites! It wouldn’t be a beauty post from Lauren if I didn’t talk about Bite!

Colourpop Ultra Glossy Lip in Tight Fit ($7): Colourpop glosses are the only ones I own anymore! They’re not sticky or gritty or weird. And this shade is perfect to pair with my other two lip products or wear on it’s own!
